Indonesian travel solutions company Traveloka announced on Monday it will be offering a solution for flight delays through its new insurance option, the On-Time Protection insurance. This marks the company as the country’s first online booking platform to provide flight delay insurance.
In a press release, the online travel agent shared data concerning the on-time performance of airlines in the first half of 2018, in which 87,509 were delayed out of 415,961 flights. Traveloka aims to address this swelling number by offering On-Time Protection insurance, which will compensate passengers with over 600K in case of over 90-minute delay in their flights.
To avail the offer, users only need to visit the Traveloka website or open their Traveloka app, pick their desired flight, provide the personal information needed, and select On Time Protection option. The insurance certificate will then be sent to the user’s email after he or she has completed the payment through the selected method.
In a report from The Jakarta Post, Traveloka’s head of global partnership, Yady Guitana, said they wish to provide each customer with “seamless travelling experience.” Guitana also promised that the company will continuously provide innovative travel solutions through its distinct features and services.
In the same report, customers were told they can avail On-Time protection for only Rp 9,900 (US$ 0.70). This will provide them with a total compensation of Rp 600,000 in the event of a flight delay of more than 90 minutes.
Earlier this year, Traveloka launched its latest flight features called Multi-city, which enables customers to book flights to several destinations in a single transaction. The online travel agent company was also ranked as The Most Popular Ticket and Hotel Booking Application Among Millennials.
To date, the online travel app is currently downloaded over 40 million times, becoming the leading Travel & Lifestyle booking platform in South East Asia.
