Song-Song Couple to Divide Assets Amounting to $86.5m

Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have officially announced their sudden divorce last June 27, 2019. Following this upsetting news, the couple will reportedly split all of their assets amounting to over 100 billion won (approximately $86.5 million).

Soong Joong Ki filed for divorce from Song Hye Kyo. In a statement released by the actor, he hopes that “rather than criticizing one another and arguing over who is to blame, I hope that the divorce process can be wrapped up amicably,” reports Korea Herald.

Shortly after, Song Hye Kyo issued her own statement via United Artists Agency (UAA) Korea, Hye Kyo’s label, citing “differences in their personalities” as the main reason for divorce, as reported by the Associated Press News.

Division of Assets

According to a report released by Maeil Business Newspaper, the couple has amassed a large combined net worth. Following the announcement of their divorce, the two stars agreed to a settlement and mediation.

With the couple having no children, the mediation will center on the wealth and assets accumulated by both parties.

Joong Ki made 40 billion won on advertisements alone prior to the marriage. Apart from this, news sites report that Joong Ki also has numerous real estate properties, including a 2.5 billion won villa ($2.2 million) in Seorae Village, Seocho District, and a mansion in Itaewon, Yongsan District.

On the other hand, Maeil Business Newspaper reports that Hye Kyo, having worked in the industry longer than Joong Ki, has acquired more properties and assets. This includes the home in Samseong, the luxury villa worth 3 billion won, and the house which previously belonged to Dong-A Pharmaceutical’s former president. The combined valuation of these three properties alone is 20.6 billion won.

The actress also has a condo unit in New York, which is worth $1.7 million dollars.

E Online states that Judge Jang Jin-young will preside over the mediation.
